Note taking and note making

Today we watched a clip and used our note taking and note making skills. First we listened for key words like sun and hot. Then we then wrote down. This was note taking.  By themselves they didn't make sene so we put them into sentences. This was note making. Check out our note we made about how hot the sun is.
Our notes;
The video showed us close up what the sun looks like;
Here we used our bullet points in a sentence. We told this sentence to a buddy;

Skimming and Scanning

Today for topic we cut up an article and in groups we skimmed and scanned the words to find key words to help us find the answer to or first question; How close is the Sun to the Earth?

Word endings

Today in our big book; Beware of the Cat we went for a hunt for words ending in 'ing' and 'ed'. We found lots of words ending in 'ed' so we turned them into words ending in 'ing' using our knowledge of the base word!

The sun is the center of our solar system

Today we watched part of this video clip to help us understand about where the sun and earth are in our solar system. We stopped it often to talk about what was being said. If you wish to watch it again to help with your Padlet Wall activity please click the link below.

Reciprocal Reading

Today the leopards group participated in reciprocal reading. There were 4 jobs that we each had a part in.

The questioner- they ask us questions about what we have read.

The clarifier - we can call this person up and ask them to clarify tricky words or words we don't understand.

The boss- their job is to tell us how many pages to read and whose job goes when

And the summariser - they re tell the story in their own words.

Open and closed questions

Today in topic studies we had to decide on 3 questions we want to focus on over the next few weeks. We decided that we wanted to know moor about the sun, so we based our questions around that.

First Mrs Moorhouse talked to us about two types if questions. Open questions and closed questions. We came up with one of each and chose our favourite 3.

Ask us what a closed question is ....

And an open questions is!
